‘Moved Items’ folder on desktop

After installing macOS Sequoia, you may find a folder with ‘Relocated Items’ on your desktop. To help you, we have discussed this topic extensively in this article.

MacBook gets warm when in sleep mode

Your MacBook may become warm after installing macOS. This mainly occurs when you are charging your MacBook. This has two causes: your Mac is busy with various new background processes such as optimizing your Mac storage.

Secondly, this can also be caused by Time Machine. Because a new software has been installed on your Mac, this needs to be included in your backup. This takes time and some processing power for your Mac, this is especially the case when you put your Mac to sleep. After a few hours, this is done and the Mac will no longer get warm while charging.

iPhone Mirroring Not Working

macOS Sequoia makes Continuity even more powerful with iPhone Mirroring. This gives you full access to and control of your iPhone on your Mac. You’ll see your wallpaper and icons exactly as they appear on your iPhone, swipe through pages of your Home screen, and use your favorite apps, too.

You control your iPhone with your Mac’s keyboard, trackpad, and mouse, and audio comes out of your Mac’s speakers. Plus, your iPhone is locked all the time, so no one can see what you’re doing. If you get a notification on your iPhone, you can respond to it right from your Mac.

Unfortunately, Apple has decided to temporarily disable iPhone Mirroring in the EU. Apple wants to check whether this function complies with European law (Digital Markets Act), only when this is ‘approved’ the function will come to the European Union.

Passwords search

In previous versions of macOS, password management was part of the System Settings app. You could also find your login details hidden in the Safari settings and use the Keychain app. Apple has now incorporated all of this functionality into the new Passwords app. So if you’re looking for your passwords, open the app of the same name.

Troubleshooting Bluetooth issues on a Mac

Are you unable to connect to your wireless mouse, keyboard or other Bluetooth devices? This may be caused by the macOS update. During installation, files may have been corrupted. Fortunately, you can easily solve most Bluetooth problems by deleting a .plist file.

Open Finder and navigate to the menu bar, click ‘Go’ and then ‘Go to Folder’. Then enter the following path: /Library/Preferences and click ‘Go’. Now in the folder, find ‘com.apple.Bluetooth.plist’ and delete it. Restart your Mac and then turn Bluetooth back on via  ▸ System Preferences. Now you can pair your Bluetooth devices to your Mac again.

Unable to connect to a wireless network

You can easily solve problems with the Wi-Fi connection by disconnecting and reconnecting. To do this, press the option⌥-key while clicking on the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar. Then click ‘Disconnect from [netwerknaam]the connection will be disconnected and then you can reconnect by logging in again.

Applications no longer show their own icon

Some Mac users are reporting issues with application icons, the cause of this is unclear, but perhaps the new interface is the cause. The applications do not show the logo of the app but the standard application icon of macOS. This is very inconvenient, but easy to solve. First you can force restart your Mac, if the problem is not solved you can delete the cache for the icons via a terminal command.

  • Open Terminal via Applications ▸ Utilities
  • Copy the command below (command⌘ + C)
  • Paste the command into an empty window (command⌘ + V)
  • Press enter to execute the command
Copy
$ rm ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.finder/Cache.db

Stop receiving notifications from websites

Installing a new macOS may require you to reconfirm some of your privacy settings. If you’re no longer receiving notifications from your favorite website, you can fix this by logging back in. Open Safari ▸ Menu Bar ▸ Safari ▸ Settings ▸ Websites ▸ Notifications, click the website, and then remove it from the list.

Then go to Safari ▸ Menu bar ▸ Safari ▸ Settings ▸ Privacy ▸ Manage website data ▸ search for the website (for example appletips) ▸ select the found results ▸ click on ‘Remove’ to clear the cookies (you can also delete everything). Then visit the website again to force login.

Creating a Time Machine backup takes a long time

Creating a Time Machine backup takes an extremely long time for some Sonoma users. Because a new software has been installed on your Mac, this needs to be optimized in your backup. This takes a lot of time, luckily you can easily speed up Time Machine backups with a handy terminal command.

Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence will first arrive on iPhone, iPad, and Mac with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 later this year. Apple’s artificial intelligence will initially be in “beta,” meaning not all features will be available immediately. Additional enhancements are expected in a future software update.

This personal intelligence system for Mac, iPhone and iPad will combine the power of generative models with the user’s individual context, resulting in AI that is both useful and relevant.

The possibilities of Apple Intelligence are great, but for now only for users in the United States. AI will first be available in English (US) and later this year in other English-language variants. Next year, Apple Intelligence will be available in French, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese, among others.

Users can change the language of their device to use AI, but due to European legislation, Apple has blocked this for the EU. This means that you cannot use AI in the Netherlands and Belgium for the time being.
