For what purpose is nature more ‘released’?

Staatsbosbeheer is increasingly releasing nature. Why are they doing that?

Answer

Hello,

It is so common that management consists of actively intervening in nature. Consider, for example, the sod of heathland, pruning trees, mowing fields or roadsides. But doing nothing is also a form of management. It has also been seen that doing nothing often produces a more diverse (ie rich in species) result. So leaving nature free is actually the most logical and natural way of managing it: nature develops itself and adapts itself to the circumstances. In this way you get a landscape that is specific to the region and therefore fits best and is the most stable in that region.

Regards,

Christine
