Formula 1 can probably be seen at Viaplay in the Netherlands until the end of 2029

In recent weeks there was a lot to do around Formula 1 at Viaplay. Would the Scandinavian streaming giant retain the broadcast rights, or would Ziggo or another player take off? It is not yet one hundred percent certain, but rumors now indicate that F1 will still be available on Viaplay Netherlands until the end of 2029.

Various sources report, among others, the NOS and De Telegraaf that the Formula 1 broadcast rights for Viaplay have been extended until the end of 2029. Striking, because Ziggo is said to have made a higher offer. However, the F1 organization was satisfied with the current collaboration with Viaplay.

Formula 1 until the end of 2029 at Viaplay

According to rumors, the broadcasting rights of Formula 1 in the Netherlands will remain with Viaplay. The streaming service has probably extended the contract until the end of 2029. Normally the current contact expired after this season. Despite GPBlog reports that the deal has been confirmed, Viaplay does not yet want to respond to this news to the NOS. Still, there is a good chance that the deal will be completed and the news will be released soon.

Ziggo is behind the net

The Dutch broadcasting rights of Formula 1 have been in the hands of Viaplay since 2022, for which the company pays around 30 million euros per year. The new deal would even involve an amount of 45 million per year.

Ziggo would have liked to have the broadcasting rights back in its hands, as the F1 could be seen on the Dutch provider before 2022. According to insiders to the NOS, Ziggo initially submitted the highest bid to Formula 1 for the rights, but the organization still chose Viaplay.

Price increase

At the beginning of this year, Viaplay informed their customers that they will pay two euros more for their monthly subscription from May 22, 2024. Instead of € 15.99, they pay € 17.99 for a monthly subscription. It is expected that new customers will soon pay this price. Previously, a subscription was cheaper with providers such as KPN, Ziggo, Odido and Caiway, hopefully a similar promotion will return in the future.
