This year we can expect four new iPhone models: the iPhone 16 (Plus) and the new iPhone 16 Pro series. You can expect most of the innovations in the iPhone 16 Pro, which will probably have a slightly larger screen and a new camera system.
The ‘standard’ iPhone 16 series will of course also receive the necessary changes, including the already familiar action button and/or a new Capture Button under the side button. All four models are expected this fall. We should not expect a new iPhone SE this year, Apple may discontinue this model completely. We list the most important rumors for you so that you know exactly what to expect from Apple’s iPhone line up for 2024.
iPhone 16 series
The new iPhone 16 series is expected in the fall of 2024, possibly in September. Unlike the iPhone 15, the iPhone 16 update promises to be slightly less spectacular. Last year the innovation in the current models was more interesting with additions such as the action button, tetraprism telephoto lens, titanium and A17 Pro (3-nanometer chip). This year it will mainly be small improvements.
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus
The iPhone 16 may again consist of two models: An iPhone 16 Plus with a 6.7-inch OLED screen. The iPhone 16 has a 6.1-inch OLED screen. Don’t expect a 120hz screen with ProMotion, this will remain a Pro feature.
It is expected that the iPhone 16 (Plus) will be equipped with a new processor. Whether this will also become a 3-nanometer chip is as yet unknown. In addition, the rear camera would be updated. Not only will it be placed vertically again, the lenses may also be renewed.
New for this model is the action button that was added in the iPhone 15 Pro series. You can quickly activate certain tasks and apps via this button. In addition, these models may also receive a new Capture Button under the side button. This can be compared to the action button, but for a specific purpose. You may be able to use this button in conjunction with the camera app.

iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
The biggest changes are expected in the Pro model. These may be equipped with a larger display with thinner screen edges and a titanium housing. This year an OLED display with ProMotion will be used again.
The dimensions for the iPhone 16 Pro screen may be 6.3 inches instead of 6.1 inches. The iPhone 16 Pro Max would go from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. This also makes the housing itself slightly larger, which has two advantages: a larger battery and more space in the standard pro model so that it can also use the tetraprism telephoto lens.
That is not the only change for the camera, the ultra-wide-angle lens may get a new 48 megapixel sensor, a huge leap forward compared to the current 12 megapixel sensor.
Just like the iPhone 16 (Plus), the Pro models may also get a new Capture Button under the side button. This can be compared to the action button, but for a specific purpose. You may be able to use this button in conjunction with the camera app.

What about the iPhone Ultra?
The iPhone Ultra has been in the news a lot in recent months. Several rumors suspect that Apple wants to launch an even more advanced iPhone. It was initially thought that the Ultra would replace the iPhone Pro Max, but according to new rumors this would not be the case.
It appears that this model will appear alongside the Pro models and will be sold as a separate (more expensive) alternative, just like the Apple Watch Ultra. The Ultra may not appear until 2025 and we can expect two iPhone Pro models this year. There is still a chance that Apple will rename the iPhone 16 Pro Max to iPhone 16 Ultra, but that remains to be seen.
No new iPhone SE
Are you waiting for a new iPhone SE? Then you will have to be patient for a while, the 4th generation is not expected until 2025, at least if everything continues. There is a rumor that the iPhone SE 4 may not appear, because Apple is said to have doubts.
However, some rumors have already been leaked regarding the new SE. This would probably have the same design as the iPhone XR from 2018 or the iPhone 13/14 with some adjustments. This means that the iPhone SE will make the switch to an ‘edge-to-edge’ screen, possibly Face ID and a larger display.
