Google Maps is a very popular and useful tool for getting from one place to another. The navigation system will make this even easier by providing clearer directions while navigating.

Who has not used to sit in the car with a map in hand to get to a certain place? And for cities, many used the Shell City Book. Those times are over for practically everyone: cars are equipped with a built-in navigation system, TomToms are still used and smartphones are certainly used a lot to get to your destination quickly. Google Maps is the favorite app for many to navigate and Google is making this app better.

If you have an electric car, Google Maps has even more new functions.

Google Maps clearer
Google recently announced that it wants to make it easier for users to get around, whether you walk, cycle or use public transport. With easy-to-understand directions, you can follow your journey from your route summary or lock screen if you take an alternate route. You’ll see updated arrival times (ETAs) and where to turn next, information that was previously only visible by unlocking your phone, opening the app, and using the enhanced navigation mode.

Alternative route
If you decide to take a different route, Google Maps will automatically update your journey. Normally when navigating you follow the blue line that indicates your route, while alternative roads are shown in gray that you can also choose. That system has now been improved: you can view each step (including the alternative route you take) on a map during your route and you will see an arrow moving. During each step, a new alternate route may pop up for you to tap. The estimated time of arrival and the number of kilometers will then be adjusted and you can then simply start navigating.

These at-a-glance prompts will roll out globally on Android and iOS in the coming months and will also be compatible with Live Activities on iOS 16.1.
