In a new update, Google Maps has removed two of its features to make the app more organized. Here’s what’s different.

Google Maps has lost two features: this is what’s different

Google Maps has changed a few things in the latest update. In the previous version, you had five tabs: Explore, Go, Saved, Contribute, and Updates. Since the latest update, two of these tabs have disappeared. These are the Updates and Go tabs.

The fact that these tabs are now gone is not so strange if you have ever looked at what was there. On the Updates tab you found adjustments that other users had made to locations, such as new opening hours or when a new exhibition was on display. But you can also see this information when you have opened a location. And on the ‘Going’ tab there were routes to places that you have visited more often.

The tabs that remain are ‘Explore’, ‘Saved’ and ‘Contribute’. The missing features can still be found in the Google Maps app, but on the ‘Saved’ tab. Here you will find the ‘Notifications’ and ‘Messages’ tabs where the data can be found.

If you still have five tabs in Google Maps on your iPhone, the app has not been updated. Sometimes it takes a while for your iPhone or iPad to download the updates itself if you have the automatic update function turned on. It is then faster to update the app on your iPhone yourself.

  • Open the ‘App Store’ and tap on your profile picture at the top right;
  • Place your finger on your name (under ‘Account’) and drag the window down. Do this until the loading icon appears;
  • Lift your finger, scroll down and tap ‘Update All’;

Sometimes it can also help to force close the app. You do this by swiping up from the bottom of the screen and then swiping your app off the screen. Do you have an iPhone with touch ID? Then quickly press the Touch button twice and then swipe the app off the screen.
