New features for Google Maps
Google has announced that new features are coming to Google Maps soon! These are new features for both iOS and Android users, which will be rolled out this week. We already know one of the new functions from Apple Maps, because it will soon be possible to add more stops to your route. For example, you can add a restaurant or gas station to your route when you are on your way home.
Have you arrived at your intermediate stop? Google Maps will then automatically navigate to the next destination. This is very useful, especially if you are on holiday and encounter a number of highlights along the way. Apple already added this feature to Apple Maps with iOS 16, but we now also see the feature on Google Maps. That’s not all, because the app makes it much easier to navigate in big cities.
Clearer navigation
Not only will it be easier to add stops to the route, navigation will soon also be displayed more clearly on Google Maps. In more than thirty major metropolises, the app clearly indicates which lane you should use. This way you know exactly at which part of the road you need to sort or merge, so that you are not faced with any surprises later. In this way, Google tries to prevent you from having to merge at the last minute or missing a turn.
We also see new features when navigating to specific places or buildings in Google Maps. Are you visiting friends, but can’t park in front of the door? Google Maps will then search for parking spaces nearby, so you no longer have to do that yourself. Once you have parked there, Maps automatically switches to pedestrian navigation to cover the last part of the route.
New features coming this month
In the United States, Google Maps will have many more functions that work with artificial intelligence. These are not available in Europe for the time being, and it is also not known if and when they will be released here. It is possible from this week to add multiple stops to your route. Finding parking spaces at your destination will also be added to Google Maps later this week.
Another nice new feature in Google Maps: you will soon be able to include current weather conditions in the route you choose. This way you can avoid flooded, snowy and poorly visible roads during your route. These features will also be available later this month, as will the improved lane display in major cities.
