Still wondering what the best navigation app for CarPlay is? With this new CarPlay feature, Google Maps is definitely catching up to Waze.
New CarPlay feature Google Maps
The search giant continues to work hard to make Google Maps the best navigation app. Apple fans may swear by Maps, but the fact is that Google Maps is the most popular navigation app worldwide. But Maps has a competitor of its own. Waze – also owned by the search giant – uses the same map material from Google, but supplements it with useful information that users report. In this way, traffic jams, speed cameras or accidents appear super fast in the app. Maps did have a similar function, but it did not work in CarPlay. Until now.
Update Google Maps CarPlay
Recently Google has activated a function on the server side to also be able to report traffic incidents from CarPlay. These can be accidents, roadworks or speed cameras. Because it has been adjusted on Google’s own servers, you don’t even have to sprint to the App Store to get the update.
If you don’t have the feature yet, please wait a bit – it will be rolled out gradually and will appear in your app automatically.
Report traffic data to Maps
To report something to Maps, simply tap the triangle button (a “danger” sign) during navigation. You can then share the next traffic conditions.

In fact, it works just like Waze. This navigation service had such a function for a number of years.
By the way, Maps recently added a function to always have a speedometer based on GPS on display in CarPlay. This way you can keep an even better eye on your speed and you don’t run the risk of being flashed.
