Google Photos will soon be able to extract photos directly from iCloud

Those who switch from an iPhone to an Android smartphone will soon be able to import their photos and videos from iCloud directly into Google Photos. Google is working on such a feature for an iOS app called “Switch to Android.” The app is currently still under development.

Transfer iCloud Photos

Switching from iOS to Android and vice versa is becoming easier and easier and that is only good for the consumer. You will soon be able to easily transfer WhatsApp conversations from one platform to another and Google is also working on a ‘Switch to Android’ app for iOS with which you can transfer data to an Android phone. It should be the counterpart of Apple’s ‘Move to iOS’ app that can be found in the Play Store.

It has now been discovered that ‘Switch to Android’ will be able to do more than just forward the contacts and files on an iPhone to an Android phone. The service will also be able to import photos and videos from iCloud into Google Photos, which has 9To5Google discovers.

Faster photo import

“To copy photos and videos from iCloud to Google Photos, follow the instructions in the Switch to Android app and learn more at g.co/transferfromicloudThis message was discovered in the code of the ‘Data Recovery Tool’ app, an Android app from Google that will soon work together with the ‘Switch to Android’ app on iOS.

It is not yet known how exactly importing data from iCloud will work. The webpage that Google refers to currently guides you to a step-by-step plan to manually transfer data from iCloud. You must first request your data from Apple, which can take up to a week. Presumably, the new method that Google is working on with ‘Switch to Android’ will work faster.

Transfer via Lightning

It has also been leaked that Switch to Android will soon be able to transfer data from iOS to Android in two ways. It was already known that that data transfer can work via WiFi, but now there is also a mention of using a Lightning cable. You may then have to plug the Lightning cable into your iPhone and then plug a USB-a cable into the USB-C port of your Android phone via an adapter on the other side. Such USB-C to USB-A adapters are sometimes included with new phones.
