Google Street View on the phone

With Google Street View you virtually ‘walk’ through streets around the world. This handy feature works not only on the computer, but also in the app.

Take a digital walk through your old hometown, or perhaps through the streets of Venice or Paris? If Google’s Street View car has been around, the three-dimensional street views can be found in Google Maps. Many will know the function mainly on the computer, but the function is also available as an app. This is especially useful on the road: you can quickly see what the street where you need to be looks like.

Street View can be viewed with two different apps:

  • Via Google Maps. In addition to the familiar Google Maps features, this app also offers the option of walking down a street. This is a great option for those who occasionally want to look down a street.
  • Via the StreetView app. This app is completely focused on Street View and especially suitable for anyone who regularly uses this feature. The app also offers the option to submit homemade 360-degree photos.

Both apps work about the same. Viewing a street goes like this:

  • Open Google Maps or Street View.
  • Tap the search bar at the top and type in a location or zoom in on a spot on the map.

At Google Maps:

  • Tap the street and hold your finger on the screen until a pin appears on the location.
  • Tap the small photo of the street at the bottom left. Is there no small photo? Then there is no street view of this place.

At StreetView:

  • The available streets have a blue-green border. Tap on a street to bring up Street View.

In a street with Street View there are several possibilities:

  • Drag your finger to look around.
  • Move two fingers together or apart to zoom in or out.
  • Drag your finger across the blue line to see further down the street.
  • Double-tap a spot on the screen to quickly move to another location.

Sometimes it is a bit difficult to walk or turn down a street. Navigating is a matter of practice.
