Google Wallet returns as a place to collect your credit cards, loyalty cards and more

The comeback of Google Wallet is a fact. Google announced the service at Google I/O 2022 as a new Android and Wear OS app. This app allows users to store things like credit cards, loyalty cards, digital IDs, transit passes, concert tickets, vaccination cards and more.

Google Wallet is coming back

Google guided Google Wallet to the exit in 2018, to merge it with Google Pay. Still, it’s time for Google Wallet to return as a service where all your debit, credit, loyalty and digital tickets come together. Pay, on the other hand, should primarily serve as a payment solution, but only for certain countries. That’s where it gets complicated.

Starting this summer, Americans will have two Google apps for payments, while many other countries that use Google Pay will migrate to the new Google Wallet app. The Netherlands and Belgium are also included. We can then use Pay for payments and the Wallet app then offers support for corona passes, digital IDs, concert tickets, digital car keys and train tickets and more. There will therefore be a clearer distinction between digital cards and a payment solution.
