Group Safari tabs for a better workflow: here’s how

The number of open tabs in Safari quickly piles up. Sometimes you can’t see the wood for the trees after a while. Since the arrival of macOS Monterey, something can be done about that! How that works, explains OMT editor Sabine in this article.

With the function Tab Groups put your tabs in separate folders. You can easily reach this via the side of Safari. Put the tabs you use for a certain project or about a certain topic together in a tab group, so that you can easily find them. This way you create a better workflow for yourself.

Safari: this is how you group tabs

Open Safari. In the sidebar on the right side you see an icon with a plus sign in two tabs. Press and select New empty tab group. Name the tab group and select it. To add a new tab to the group, press the plus sign on the right side of the menu. The tab is added automatically.

Alternatively, you can visit a website in Safari and right-click on the site’s name. Choose Put in tab group and choose a location of your choice. To work outside the tab group, create a new tab group or select the computer icon above Tab Groups in the side menu.

New in macOS Ventura: share tab groups

With the arrival of macOS Ventura, it is also possible to share tab groups in Safari. Select a tab group and press the three dots that appear. Press Share tab group. Choose an application from the list to share it with, such as Mail or Messages.

Have you sent the invitation to the tab group? An icon with a person will appear next to the tab group, so you can see that it is a shared folder. The recipient of your invitations can easily use the same tabs in Safari. An even better team workflow is almost impossible.
