Have you figured out Disney Plus completely? Or are you not quite sure what it is exactly, how it works and whether you want it? Here you can read everything you need to know about Disney Plus and the useful functions of the app.
1. Disney Plus Tips: The Pros and Cons of the Service
On the latest streaming service Disney Plus you can watch unlimited documentaries, films, series and cartoons for a fixed monthly fee. Just like Netflix, you don’t get annoying commercials in between.
You can watch movies in 4K quality. Disney Plus competes with Netflix, but also becomes the counterpart of Apple TV Plus. The great thing is that you can now choose one or more streaming services, but of course there is also choice stress! We have listed the pros and cons of Disney Plus for you.
Cheaper than Netflix
For Disney Plus you pay 6.99 euros per month, or 69.99 euros for a whole year. This is cheaper than Netflix, because you usually pay 7.99 per month. You also have to pay extra for 4K quality with Netflix. You also pay extra at Netflix if you want to watch on different devices at the same time, and that is free at Disney Plus.
The Netflix offer is currently larger, so the monthly price of Disney Plus may increase as the offer increases. Anyway, if you regularly watch a movie, a subscription is much cheaper than purchasing individual films or renting digitally.
If you find out that you prefer not to pay monthly, you must cancel before the 12th to prevent your trial subscription from being converted into a monthly membership.
Multiple profiles
The number of profiles that can watch on one account is also more than with Netflix: With Disney Plus you can create seven profiles at the same time. With Netflix, there are four. Just like with Netflix, you can give each family member a separate profile with Disney Plus. That way, everyone looks through their own account. Profiles can be personalized with custom avatars, so you can keep everyone apart.

But what can you watch on Disney Plus? The offer is enormous. If you’re feeling nostalgic, you can check out the polished Disney classics. Think of the Lion King, Bambi, or Lady & the Tramp.
In addition, you can enjoy iconic Pixar adventures, the greatest superheroes Marvel blockbusters and all Star Wars sagas. The offer is constantly being supplemented. This means that new installments from Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy and many more titles will be available exclusively at Disney Plus in the future.
No more Disney on Netflix
Disney Plus will only stream its own productions. The advantage of this is that the films or series do not just disappear when a contract expires, as is the case with Netflix.
This is bad news for people with only a Netflix subscription, because thanks to the arrival of Disney Plus, these titles can no longer be found at the competitor. It doesn’t look like these Disney, Pixar and Marvel titles will return to Netflix in the future.
Difference from other streaming services
Disney Plus is no better than Netflix and Apple TV Plus, or the other way around. It is true that all streaming services have a unique offer. Netflix has internationally acclaimed top series and Apple TV Plus relies on the strength of big names such as JJ Abrams, Steve Carell and Jennifer Aniston. It is therefore advisable to take a trial subscription, so that you can find out what your taste is.

2. This is how you watch Disney Plus
There are several ways you can watch Disney Plus. For the iPhone and iPad one Disney Plus app available in the App Store. Unfortunately, it is not (yet) possible to download the app on the Mac. If you want to watch on your Mac, simply go to disneyplus.com.
create an account
To use Disney Plus you must first create an account. Go through the following steps to start watching:
- Go to the Disney Plus website and create an account;
- Pay 0.01 cents via iDeal or 1 euro via PayPal to link your bank account to your account;
- Download the Disney Plus app on your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV;
- Log in with your account and start watching.
Add multiple profiles
For example, if you have a Disney Plus subscription with several family members, it is useful to create a separate profile for each family member. This way everyone can watch films and series at their own pace.
To add multiple profiles, tap the icon of your profile at the bottom right of the screen. After this, tap the plus sign at ‘New’ at the top of the screen, next to your own profile picture. Choose an icon and enter a name.
You can also click here that it is a ‘child profile’. For example, it is easy to use for a child and no films or series are recommended that are not suitable for children.
Various devices
You can stream Disney Plus on four devices at the same time. This is useful if, for example, each family member is viewing in a separate room. Disney has released the complete list of devices you can watch the service on. The full list is as follows, although it can of course be expanded further in the future.
- On computers and laptops through a web browser;
- Android smartphones and tablets;
- Android TV;
- Chromecast;
- iPhone, iPad and iPod touch;
- Apple TV;
- PlayStation 4;
- Xbox One;
- Roku and Roku TV.
3. Search TV shows and movies on Disney Plus
Not sure yet what to watch? That is not surprising, because the offer is huge. There are several ways you can find a movie or series. First of all, you can of course tap them on the main screen of the app.
If you have a specific film or series in mind, you can also search for it specifically. Tap the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of your screen. In the next screen, enter the title of the movie or series, or choose a category from the screen. You can also tap ‘Movies’ or ‘Series’. This will take you to the next screen with featured films or series.
4. Casting and subtitles
Have you found a nice movie or series that you want to watch? Then you can choose to cast the film to your television. If you are on the WiFi network of your Chromecast, for example, a cast icon will automatically appear when you play a movie.
Would you like to see the film in Dutch for ultimate nostalgia? Or do you prefer to watch it in English, with or without subtitles? You can of course set all of that on Disney Plus. When you play the movie, you will see a small square at the top right of the screen. If you click on this, you can adjust the audio and subtitles of the movie or series.
5. This way you save nice films and series in your watch list
If you come across several movies you want to watch while searching, you may not have time for that right away. That is why it is useful to keep films and series in a list, so that you can easily return to it when you do have the time. In addition, it is easy to remember what you wanted to see. This is how you add films and series to your watch list:
- Open the Disney Plus app on your iPhone or iPad
- Tap the movie you would like to see another time;
- You will see a plus next to ‘Play’. Click on this;
- The plus sign changes to a check mark. Now the movie is saved in the list.
You can check your list by going to your profile. To do so, tap on your profile picture at the bottom right. You can then click on ‘My list’ at the top. Here are all the films and series that you have added to your list.
Have you watched the movie, or don’t you want to watch it? Then you can remove it by clicking on the movie in your list. Then tap the check mark. This then changes back to a plus and is no longer in your list.
6. This is how you download films and series
All Disney Plus docs, films and series are available for download. This is useful, because you can, for example, download a movie on your smartphone in the morning with WiFi, to watch on your smartphone later on the train. You do not need an internet connection for this, which saves mobile data.
How to download on your device:

- Open Disney Plus on your iPhone;
- Select a film, documentary or series that you want to watch later. For example, tap a title on the home screen or use the search function (third button from the bottom);
- Tap the download icon (down arrow). The button now changes to a square with a circle around it;
- Wait for the download to complete.
The movie or series is now on your iOS device. To watch the video, open Disney Plus, tap the download button at the bottom of the screen (third button from the left) and simply press the Play button. Depending on the size of the file and the speed of your internet connection, the download will take a while.
Did you watch the movie or series? Then you can delete the video by tapping the phone icon on the right in the Downloads tab. Then choose ‘Remove download’. After that, the video will be deleted from your phone and the storage space will be released again.
Use less data
Did you forget to download a movie or series when you were on WiFi, but don’t want to use too much data for streaming? Then you can choose to limit your mobile data use. To do this, go to your profile and choose ‘App settings’.
Then tap on ‘Mobile data usage’ and choose ‘Save data’. This way, your streams will be played in lower quality, so that they use less data. You can also choose ‘WiFi only’ if you want to prevent accidental streaming via your mobile data.
7. Change download quality in Disney Plus
Do you think the download is taking too long, or do you not have enough storage on your phone to keep movies? Then it might help to adjust the download quality. By adjusting these downwards, offline movies and series take up less space.
This is how you adjust the download quality of films and series:

- Open the Disney Plus app on your phone or tablet;
- Go to your profile by tapping the rightmost button at the bottom of the screen;
- Select ‘App Settings’ and go to ‘Download Quality’;
- Select ‘Standard’ to minimize the storage space required for films and series.
You can of course also choose ‘High’. Videos are then saved in the highest possible resolution. This is especially nice when you watch movies on a phone with a high screen resolution. Of course you need more storage space for this than with a standard quality. ‘Medium’ is the middle way: videos download fairly quickly, but they do not have as high a resolution as when you download in ‘High’.
8. Cancel Disney Plus
Is Disney Plus disappointing, you watch too little, or you don’t want to pay for the subscription after the 30-day trial period? Then you can easily cancel your subscription. Simply follow the steps below.

- Go to the account page on the official Disney Plus website and log in with your email address and password;
- Tap ‘Billing Information’ at the bottom;
- This screen shows when the next subscription fee will be billed. Choose ‘Cancel subscription’;
- Confirm your choice and tap ‘Finish’.
You can keep watching Disney Plus until your subscription expiration date. This is indicated on the screen. Of course, this also applies to other profiles that are connected to the same account. Downloaded videos will then also be automatically deleted from your iPhone or iPad.
