Watching TV anywhere, anytime on your iPad: it’s the most natural thing in the world these days. However, choosing the best app for this is quite a hassle: the range is huge. In this guide we look at the different apps for watching TV on your iPad.
Watch TV on an iPad with these apps deze
Admittedly, the range of TV apps for your iPad is downright confusing. Take NLZiet as an example. This app is a joint initiative of NPO, RTL and SBS, but all these parties also have their own app. In fact, you can even purchase a separate subscription within the NPO app. How does this work? In this article, we try to bring some order to the chaotic world of watching TV on your iPad.
General television apps
1. ENSee
NLZiet is a joint project of the NPO, RTL and SBS. The range of all those (underlying) broadcasters is bundled in one app. Of course you can watch live TV, but you can also watch it back. Some serious ones also give you sneak peeks. That way you can already watch (a part of) the next episode. NLZiet costs 7.95 euros per month. You can try the service for free for a month.
2. NPO
Do you mainly watch public broadcasting? Then the NPO app is a must. This allows you to watch live programs on NPO 1, 2 and 3. You also get access to live radio from NPO Radio 1 and FunX, among others. Looking back is also an option, although you do have to take the licenses into account. For example, some (international) documentaries, films or series can only be viewed for a limited time. Do you want to extend this term? Then you must purchase an NPO Plus account. Programs can then be watched for a longer period of time. The image quality is then also increased.
3. LOOK
Just like the NPO, Talpa Network, John de Mol’s media empire, also has its own app for watching TV on your iPad. KIJK bundles the offer of the channels SBS6, NET5, Veronica and SBS9. Besides that you can watch live television with this app, it is also possible to watch episodes ahead, either for a fee. Furthermore, KIJK has a selection of films and you can watch live sporting events such as Champions League football, Glory kickboxing galas and UFC MMA matches.
4. RTL XL
RTL can’t stay behind, of course. This media house also has its own app for watching TV. You can watch missed episodes up to a week. RTL XL is completely free. In the past you had to pay for some programmes, but nowadays RTL has made a clearer distinction. Do you want to see exclusive films and series, or watch programs that were broadcast more than a week ago? Then you have to be at Videoland, RTL’s Netflix competitor. A subscription to this does cost money.
Watching television through your provider
5. KPN Interactive TV
As you might expect based on the name, KPN Interactive TV allows you to watch television on your iPad. In addition, there is a wide range of films and series to choose from. Unlike services like Netflix, you have to purchase these titles separately. It is also possible to watch programs back. Tired of your iPad screen? Then it is possible to stream the images to your Chromecast so that you can watch on a large screen. You must of course be a KPN customer to use this app.
6. Tele2 Online TV
Combi packages have become increasingly popular in recent years. By placing your mobile telephone, television and fixed calling subscription with one party, you benefit from high discounts. Tele2 offers such a combi subscription. People with a Tele2 Interactive TV package can watch live television on their iPad with this.

7. T-Mobile TV Anywhere
Provider T-Mobile cannot be left behind. With the TV Anywhere app you can easily watch TV on your iPad. Programs can be viewed up to seven days back and Begin Missed is ideal for when you are switched on just too late. Furthermore, it is possible to pause shows and you can set reminders. This way you will automatically receive a signal when your favorite program starts. The TV Anywhere app is only for T-Mobile Home customers.
8. Ziggo
People with a Ziggo connection have their own app to watch television. Ziggo GO lets you watch all channels. In addition, you can choose from a wide range of films and series that can also be stored offline. This is ideal for when, for example, you travel to and from work by public transport, and want to watch your favorite series on the go. Ziggo GO is free for Ziggo customers and can handle AirPlay.
Other ways to watch TV on your iPad
The above apps do not paint the complete picture. There are many more apps for watching TV with your iPad. Almost every party nowadays has its own iPad app for watching programs. This applies, for example, to relatively small parties such as Delta and Solcon.
You can also watch live TV on your tablet via Canal Digitaal. A subscription costs 11.95 euros per month. You then have a choice of 64 channels. For 14.95 euros per month you even have 78 channels at your disposal. Are you a customer of budget provider Online.nl? Then you can also use Canal Digitaal.
