The centuries-old stories in the Bible form the basis of belief in multiple religions and therefore have an intrinsic truth that goes beyond a description of actual events. “Stopping the sun” actually implies stopping the rotation of the earth, because it is the rotation of the earth that ostensibly causes the sun to rotate in the sky. There is no known physical process by which it would be possible to temporarily stop the rotation of the Earth. Moreover, this would no doubt cause a catastrophe of planetary magnitude. You can and may therefore assume that the passages mentioned in the Bible do not refer to an actual event.
