Here’s how to adjust the Liquid Glass effect of the clock on the Lock screen

Available from iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2

Do you find the clock on your iPhone or iPad’s Lock screen difficult to read when using the Liquid Glass layout? Fortunately, there is a solution for this from iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2: you can now adjust the transparency of the clock separately.

This improves readability, even with dark or busy backgrounds. A small adjustment that can noticeably improve your daily user experience. In this way, Apple tries to improve the universal Liquid Glass effect on all its devices with user feedback.

You can choose to display the clock very transparently or slightly matte for better readability. This is useful if you have a busy background and the clock was difficult to read.

Adjust Liquid Glass display

Overall, do you think the Liquid Glass effect is too transparent and do you find some parts difficult to read? Then you can adjust the degree of transparency and choose ‘frosted glass’ instead of ‘translucent glass’.

  • Open Settings
  • Go to ‘Screen and brightness’
  • Tap ‘Liquid Glass’
  • Choose ‘Clear’ or ‘Tint’
Customize Liquid Glass

On a Mac you can adjust this via  ▸ System Settings ▸ Display ▸ Liquid Glass ▸ Clear or Tinted.

These display options ensure that buttons and menus become clearer when you choose a tinted display. This is because the background of these parts is slightly transparent and has a matte background, which improves readability. This is especially reflected in the toolbar in Photos and the notifications on the lock screen.
