Since iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, you can customize the home screen even more to your liking. So you can now place your apps and widgets anywhere on the home screen. It is now also possible to hide the names of apps and widgets.
If you choose this view, the symbols of apps and widgets will be displayed larger without text underneath. We explain how to customize the appearance and hide the names of apps and widgets on the home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
Customize the appearance of apps on the home screen
Would you like to clean up the home screen of your iPhone or iPad? Since iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, you can choose to display the apps and widgets without names on the home screen. The apps will then appear larger without text.
Remove app names
- Place your finger on an app or widget
- Wait a few moments
- Choose ‘Customize home screen’
- Tap ‘Edit’ at the top
- Choose ‘Customize’
- Select ‘Small’ or ‘Large’

Immediately, iOS or iPadOS will adjust the appearance of apps and make them larger. This results in the text being hidden under an app or widget.
Adjust display
Not only can you adjust the size, you can also change the colors of app symbols. So you can choose to have them Dark or Light to display, or automatically to match the dark mode of your device.
You can also change the color of the app icons with a color filter. Tap Tinted, then choose a color you want. This way you can make the home screen personal or match a color to the background.
