Hiding names of apps and widgets on your iPhone’s home screen is finally possible in iOS 18. Here’s how it works!
Customize home screen in iOS 18
Apple has unveiled iOS 18, bringing many new features to your iPhone. As a user, you get much more freedom in designing your home screen. From iOS 18 it is possible to customize the icons of apps, because you decide what color these symbols have. That’s not the only new feature, because in the new iOS version you can also hide the names of apps and widgets on your iPhone.

This was not yet possible in iOS 17 or older, so you always saw the names of apps or widgets on the home screen of your iPhone in small letters. The names of widgets could already be changed, but this was not the case with applications. This is still not possible in iOS 18, but you can choose to hide the titles of apps completely. We explain how to do that.
Hide app names on your iPhone
Starting in iOS 18, you can disable the names of apps and widgets from being visible on your iPhone’s home screen. Apple hides the letters by making the apps’ symbols larger. This creates a minimalist layout on your home screen with larger applications. Do you want to enable this feature? How to hide all app and widget names on your iPhone:
- Open your iPhone and go to the home screen;
- Press and hold the home screen for a few seconds;
- Tap Edit at the top left of the screen;
- Choose ‘Customize’;
- Select ‘Large’;
- Tap the home screen to exit the menu.
The icons of the apps on your iPhone home screen are now much larger, so the names are no longer visible. Do you find the custom icons of the applications a bit too large? You can then reset the settings by pressing and holding the home screen again for a few seconds and tapping ‘Change > Adjust > Small’. The images of all apps and widgets on the home screen of your iPhone will then be ‘normal’ again.

Unfortunately, there is no way yet to hide the names of apps and widgets on your iPhone without enlarging the icons. In the same menu you can also adjust the colors of the icons for all apps. This makes it possible to make the pictures dark in the evening, or to give all symbols a bright different color. So you can completely customize the home screen from iOS 18.

In addition to hiding the names, you can also place apps anywhere on your iPhone’s home screen.
