When sharing photos and videos from the Photos application for iPhone or iPad, you may be sending extra information unsolicited that you might not want. The location linked to the photo or video is also shared.
Since iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, it is possible to hide the location from the recipient when sharing one or more photos and/or videos. This requires an extra step, we explain how you can apply this to your iPhone or iPad.
Hide location when sharing photo
- Open your photo library in the Photos app for iPhone or iPad
- Select one or more photos
- Tap the share button
- Then select ‘[aantal] photos selected’ for ‘Options’
- Turn off ‘Location’
- Confirm with done
- Choose a preferred sharing option
The media is then sent without linked location data, it does not matter which application or sharing option you choose. Whether for AirDrop, WhatsApp, Mail or other applications will send the media without location.
Unfortunately, these steps are necessary if you want to share photos and/or videos without location data. If you share them directly via WhatsApp or the Messages app, for example, it will contain the location.
