HomePod Beginner’s Guide: Three Helpful Tips

Apple released the HomePod earlier this year, but only in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. Still, it is possible to get the smart speaker at home now. For example, it has already surfaced on various bargain sites and you can simply order it abroad. If you already have a HomePod, you may not know how to get started. Below we have listed three useful tips for you.

1. Set up HomePod

Setting up a HomePod is pretty easy. After all, the speaker functions as an extension of your iPhone or iPad and the device itself does not have an interface. Follow the step-by-step plan below to get your HomePod ready for use.

  1. Plug in the HomePod and wait for the white light;
  2. Unlock your iPhone or iPad and hold it next to the HomePod;
  3. Follow the steps on the screen and wait for your data to be transferred.

2. Reset HomePod

Do you want to sell your HomePod or does it just stop responding? Then a factory reset is a good idea. Follow the steps below to perform the reset.

  1. Open the Home app;
  2. Hold your finger on the HomePod for a moment and tap ‘Details’;
  3. Tap ‘Remove accessory’ at the bottom of the page.

You can also reset your HomePod without using your iPhone. Follow the step-by-step plan below.

  1. Unplug the HomePod and plug it back in after a few seconds;
  2. Wait a few seconds and then hold your finger on the top until the Siri light turns red;
  3. Once Siri has indicated that the reset begins and you hear three beeps, you can lift your finger.

3. Protect your data

Siri can help you with all kinds of things via the HomePod, such as reading text messages, notes and reminders. You can indicate your preferences for this during the setup. Still, it can be useful to turn off Personal Requests so that others cannot listen to this information through HomePod. Follow the steps below if you want to disable this access.

  1. Open the Home app and tap the navigation arrow;
  2. Tap your name;
  3. Scroll down and turn off Personal Requests.
