How can you cut tissues with lasers?

Since laser is really just concentrated light, I don’t get it very well.

Answer

Best,

A laser is not just concentrated light, it can transfer energy in a very effective way.

Of course you have different types of laser. The laser for surgery is a carbon dioxide laser. (see also wikipedia link which is quite correct)

The energy of the laser will heat up the tissue in a very fast and very precise way. This will cause the cells to explode (boiling water in the cell). The cells that explode give off a little smoke and water vapor that is then extracted. Of course these are only a few cells that explode, but they do cause the tissues to separate from each other (cutting effect). You can compare it to a large wall from which you remove a whole row of stones, so that the wall is divided in two.

Kind regards,
