How can you make a wall or floor magnetic?

With a magnetic force of 10kg/m2 I already have enough. It would actually be the intention to create a large magnetic field. The condition is that it is easy and quick to install and that it is a cheap solution, since the material has to be installed again and again. It would be even easier if there was a magnetic adhesive that can handle a 10 kg/m2 and is cheap (€5/m2). Think that’s where the problem is. Can, should not be expensive for this application. I do mean magnetic glue, not paint with iron dust in it, as you can get in the trade.

Answer

Hello Bart,

That is certainly possible.
There are even magnetic ‘carpets’ on the market (
see here e.g.).
A kind of magnetic tiles are also possible, as long as the north (or south) pole of all magnets points in the same direction.

Magnetic glue, on the other hand, would present difficulties, since ferromagnetism only occurs in a metal lattice.
You can process small metal particles in a liquid substance, such as in the paint with iron dust, but if those particles are magnetic,
you would have to apply a strong magnetic field while the glue is drying to make all particles ‘point’ in the same direction.
