Answer

Dear Jolene,

If you download a video from YouTube, you can save it in several ways. You have to look at the file extension (which is actually the file type) for that. Some examples you may know: a Word file has the extension .doc or .docx, an Excel file .xls or .xlsx, a photo you took with your digital camera .jpg, and so on. For your YouTube video, the extension is probably .flv or .mov. To see the extension of your file, right click on your file and select “properties” or “properties”. A window will open in which “Type of file” or “File type” can be read.
To play your video in Windows Media Player you have to convert it to .wmv for example. You can do this with youtubedownloader 2.5.4 with the option “Convert video (previously downloaded) from file” and then in the “Convert to” list choose Windows Media Video (V.7 WMV) and with “Select Video File” on indicate where your youtube video is located on your hard drive. You will then be able to play the new wmv file with Windows Media Player
You can find the latest version of youtubedownloader at http://download.cnet.com/YouTube-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10647340.html
If you have any additional questions, you can always send me an e-mail (jverps@vub.ac.be), and I will help you further. Good luck with it!

Jurgen.
