Recently it was a big party because there were 7 billion people in this world. However, this clock http://www.poodwaddle.com/clocks/worldclock/ tells me that we are now only 6 billion people. How come it has fallen so much?
Answer
Dear Hannah,
The answer is actually quite simple. The world population has not decreased. The number of people on Earth is estimated and is therefore not an exact number. This website’s estimate apparently differs from the United Nations estimate. I’ve added the link to the statistics that the UN produces.
Estimates are used, because births and deaths are not recorded (equally precisely) all over the world.
