It’s actually 2 questions.
1 – how does a plasma screen work?
2 – I really wonder how scientists can invent such things. How do they get started on this?, …
Answer
How a plasma screen (and other similar technologies) works can be found beautifully explained on the Wikipedia: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasmascherm.
Such an invention does not come suddenly and out of the blue 🙂 Most of the things that you as a consumer see appear in a product are the result of a long process of development, step by step. After all, the vast majority of “inventions” are minor improvements and modifications of things that already exist. It usually takes several decades for a new idea to grow into a consumer product, as the result of thousands of man-years of patiently working on every small step, with a team of dozens of scientists…
Reality is a lot less romantic than what genius individuals like “Professor Gobelijn” or “Professor Barabas” seem to suggest 🙂 Even the most famous example of a “genius” scientist, Albert Einstein, relied on results of other scientists for him, and has done “nothing else” than recognizing that some mathematical ideas could also be applied to the real world.
