Answer
Dear Jolan,
I find 2 values in the literature that are approximately equal.
According to one literature source, a stag beetle flies at a speed of 6 km/h; according to the other source, this is a speed of about 1.5 meters per second (= 5.4 km/h). This speed is more or less the same and will come close to reality. The males apparently fly a little faster than the females.
For comparison, the speed of some other insects: the housefly 2 m/s, the honeybee 2.5 m/s, the bumblebee 3 to 4.5 m/s and a dragonfly 7 m/s.
kind regards,
Hans
