Have you ever wondered how long your iPhone will last? You may notice that the battery runs empty faster or that certain apps work a bit slower.
Does that mean that you need a new phone? Absolutely not! An iPhone can often last for years and with a few smart choices you can enjoy it much longer.
What determines the life of an iPhone?
An iPhone is built to last for at least five years and with a bit of luck even seven years or more. This is considerably longer than most Android devices, which often encounter their limit after two or three years. The big question is of course, how long does your iPhone continue to work well? This depends on software updates, battery performance and the general condition of the device.
When is it time for a new iPhone?
If you notice that your phone is getting slower and slower, the battery runs out quickly and you can no longer use important apps, then it might be time for an upgrade. Do you not immediately want the newest and most expensive iPhone? Then consider a slightly older model such as the iPhone 12 or 13. These still have modern functions and are supported for years. Will your subscription end soon and do you think it’s time for something new? Then close one iPhone SE with subscription AF, where you can choose whether you go for the new iPhone or for a model of the year before.

When does Apple stop support?
Apple continues to support iPhones for a long time, but after a few years it ends. This means that at some point there will be no large software updates anymore, although security updates will be continued. An outdated iPhone can still function well, but you will find that some new apps no longer work or that your device will be less safe. Take for example the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6. These models no longer receive updates and cannot upgrade to the latest iOS versions. Because of this you miss new functions and some apps are less able to work well. Yet you can still use an older iPhone for basic functions, as long as you know what to take into account.

Is an older iPhone still worth it?
That depends on what you do with it. Do you mainly use your phone for calling, WhatsApp and what social media? Then an older iPhone can still come along well. But if you would like to use the latest apps and functions, then you may eventually need a new model. For models such as the iPhone 6s and iPhone SE (first generation), they are still fairly powerful for daily use, but missing new updates. The iPhone 7 is slightly better, but also receives no more updates. The iPhone 8, on the other hand, can last for a few more years and has access to the latest iOS versions, although here will also be the support fuses.
