How long can you keep an egg cold before hatching it yourself?

If a hen has laid a fertilized egg and has not yet incubated on it, how long can you keep such an egg cold before incubating it yourself…? I would like to do that with 6 eggs :D.

Answer

Dear Jake,

chicken eggs should not be stored for more than a week before hatching. The maximum shelf life is about 3 weeks, but only a few eggs that are stored for that long will eventually hatch a healthy chick.
