How long does it take to make a computer?

That’s very hard to say. Every computer is a little different, and not every computer is equally easy to make. It always takes some luck. If you are unlucky it can take a very long time.

It also depends:
– Do you know how a computer works and what each part does?
– Have you done it before? Do you often make computers?
– Do you still have to go to the store for the parts or do you have everything ready?

If you already have all the parts ready, and you know how a computer works, and you’ve done it many times before and you don’t have to go looking for anything anymore, someone can build a desktop computer in 30 minutes. Making a laptop may take a little longer because its parts are smaller and therefore harder to hold. Laptops are not built much themselves, but mostly just bought.

If you still have to look up a lot or read manuals, you should count on an entire afternoon to build a computer. A computer is a complicated device.

If you are building a computer yourself for the first time, it is important that someone who has already done it is present to see if you are doing it all correctly. A computer breaks quickly if you do something wrong. You should not rush and you should do everything calmly. You must pay attention to your clothing: you may not wear anything that will charge you electrically (or get ‘sparks’ when you touch the car). You will also need some screwdrivers.
