Neuroscientists have discovered how rat brains control the perception of sound. According to this, their brain amplifies relevant sounds when the animals are busy. The auditory cortex not only reacts to sounds, but also adapts its activity specifically to the requirements of the task. This is made possible by “clock generator neurons”.
