We were surprised ourselves to see how easy it has become to read and manage your Gmail mail in Outlook.com. The online version of Outlook even has a special button to quickly add your Gmail account. That way you can manage both accounts centrally.
The button
Critical readers may sigh because they know you can add other email accounts to Outlook Online anyway. But then you have to go through some configuration panels and fill in the right things like port numbers and POP or IMAP server names. And it helps Outlook you here, yet this can seem quite intimidating. With more than 1.5 billion Gmail accounts in the world today, Microsoft has made the link between the two services very simple. After opening Microsoft’s web version on your desktop, click the icon Add Gmail account. That button is in the top left near the button New message. The icon is an envelope with a plus sign in the bottom right corner.
Share with Microsoft apps & services
This opens the browser to a new tab in which the Gmail login screen appears. Enter the username and password of the Google account whose email you want to redirect to https://outlook.live.com. Do you have different Gmail accounts like in this screenshot. Then you can select the desired account by clicking on it. Google will share your name, email address, language preference, and even your profile picture with Microsoft apps & services.
Revoke access
In the next step, Google points out again that by using this link you are sharing a lot of information with Microsoft, for which you previously only relied on Google’s privacy promise. We’re not just talking about email messages that are also available for Microsoft apps & services, or your date of birth that you reveal as a result. In theory, Microsoft can now even access all your Google Drive files, your Gmail contacts, and all Google Calendar data. So it remains a matter of trust. click on Allow to make the connection. You will receive a security notification from Google at your recovery email. Do you want to later remove Microsoft’s access to your Google data? Then go to your Google account on https://myaccount.google.com/permissions and remove the link there.
