How to fix a slow right-click menu in Windows 10

The context menu is the list of functions that appears when you right-click on a folder or file. It may happen that this right-click menu is delayed or even no longer displayed. These are three solutions to solve the problem of a slow shortcut menu in Windows 10.

Step 1: Update graphics drivers

The most common cause is related to the graphics card drivers. Please update these drivers first. To do this, open the menu Start and type in the search box Device Manager. In this list you select the adapter of the graphics card at Display adapters and then you use Action / Update Driver. In the dialog box, choose: Automatically search for updated driver software. When the system finds an updated driver, please check if it is suitable for your machine and update it. If not, try it first Search Windows Update for updated drivers. Follow the instructions, restart the computer and see if the problem is solved.

Look for graphics card updates.

Step 2: Clean Start

Is the problem not solved? Then start with a clean start. This will Windows 10 boot with a minimum of drivers and startup programs so you can figure out what conflict is causing the problem. Go to the menu Start and type msconfig. Select System Configuration and uncheck the box Load startup items from and click OK. Restart the PC. If the right-click menu is fast now, the cause is the startup programs. Reboot normally and open task management of Ctrl+Shift+Delete and go to the tab Startup. Right click on the first enabled item and choose Switch off. Restart the computer and check the right-click menu. Continue in the same way until you find the retarder.

Disable the startup programs one by one.

Step 3: Remove items from shortcut menu

Sometimes you can solve the problem by removing functions of an external program from the right-click menu. You need a context menu editor for this. Here we use ShellExView. In this program you go through Options nasty View By Extension Type and then you can Context Menu to open. Arrange the list by Product name so you certainly don’t disable items from Microsoft or products you don’t know. Then select one or more items from external programs. Right click on it and choose Disable Selected Items. Restart your computer and keep your fingers crossed!

Disable the items in the shortcut menu of external programs.
