Apple’s iWork apps are now easier to secure. For Pages, Numbers and Keynote, you can now use the Touch ID sensor on your iPhone and MacBook. We show how iWork Touch ID works.
Set up and use iWork Touch
Since the arrival of Apple’s fingerprint scanner, more and more apps are getting support for Touch ID. Strangely enough, we had to wait the longest for Apple’s own apps that could use Touch ID so well: the iWork applications.
The update to version 3.1 of Pages, Numbers and Keynote requires iOS 10 or higher. In addition to a number of smaller improvements, such as improving bookmarks and practicing a presentation.
However, the most practical feature is the support of Touch ID. With this you unlock locked documents with the push of the home button, or Touch ID sensor on the 2016 MacBook Pro. To use this function, you must of course first provide a document with a password. You do this as follows.
Set up iWork Touch ID in 4 steps
- Create a document and tap the three dots in the top right corner;
- Choose ‘Set password’ in the settings option;
- Enter a password, check and prompt;
- Make sure that the button behind ‘Open with Touch ID’ is green.
The thumbnail of your document or presentation should now have a gray lock. This indicates that you have password protected the file. The next time you open it, the Touch ID window will appear. You can then quickly unlock it by placing your finger on the home button. Do you suffer from Touch ID issues? Then read the tip below.
