How to turn the sound of your iPhone up or down: this is how you do it

You can easily turn the iPhone volume up by pressing the volume keys on the left side of the device. You will also find them on the side of the iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad and iPad Mini. As soon as you press the volume button, you will see a bar on the screen showing how high or low the volume is.

You can also increase the volume by opening the control panel with a swipe from the top right to the bottom. This applies to all iPhones without a home button, such as the iPhone 12. Do you use an iPhone with a home button, such as the iPhone SE? Then you swipe from the bottom to the top. Then slide the bar with the loudspeaker in it in the popup menu. To enable Do Not Disturb mode and mute all iPhone sounds, press the moon icon.

‘Hey Siri, turn up the volume’

Another way to turn up the volume on the iPhone is to ask Siri. The digital assistant understands what you mean and can adjust the volume itself. You activate the assistant with the voice command ‘Hey Siri’. You can then enter a command such as: “turn up the volume”, or “turn up the volume”.

Adjust the volume through the settings app

Via ‘Settings> Hear and Feel’ you can further set how loud the ringing and text message tone and other notifications sound. This is done by means of a slider under the heading ‘ringtone and notifications’.

With the ‘change with buttons’ slider you can choose to adjust the volume of your notification sounds with the volume buttons on the side of the iPhone. This is off by default. You can also decide whether you want to hear sound when you receive an email, tweet or Facebook message. If desired, you can mute all sounds.
