For the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple has replaced the sound switch with a multi-function action button. As soon as you press the button, an action is started, just like with the Apple Watch Ultra.
Using the action button you can, among other things, open an app, turn on the camera, start Siri command, activate the magnifying glass, etc. Of course, just like on previous iPhone models, you can also change the sound with this.

The sound switch for iPhone has been present since the beginning of Apple’s smartphone and ensures that you can easily switch the sound of your device on or off. Yet few people use it, especially if you also have an Apple Watch.

Exclusively for the iPhone 15 Pro (Max), Apple has replaced this switch with a multifunctional action button. As soon as you hold the button, an action will be started. By default, the action button is set so that you can turn the sound on and off. But the user can also change the action. Below are the options.
Customize iPhone action button
Do you want to customize the action button of the iPhone 15 Pro (Max)? Then you can do this via the Settings app. Go to ‘Action button’ and choose one of the options by swiping left or right. Apple shows the possibilities with the help of a visual slider.
You can further adjust some parts. For example, you can immediately activate the selfie camera under camera or choose a command from the Siri Commands option.
Action button functions
- Silent mode: Turn your iPhone’s sound on or off
- Camera: Open the Camera app to take a photo or video
- Flashlight: Quickly turn the LED flash (flashlight) on or off
- Focus: enable and disable a Focus
- Magnifying glass: Open the magnifying glass app to zoom in and out
- Translate: translate text or live conversation
- Voice messages: record voice messages
- Accessibility: activate various accessibility features
- Assignments: execute a Siri command (handy!)
This last option is actually the most important. Thanks to the support for Assignments, you can actually perform any action you can think of with one simple press of the action button.
