Use WhatsApp on multiple devices at the same time, without the phone having to be online. That capability is now available as a test.Multi-device beta
Anyone using the latest version of WhatsApp can test a trial feature of the app. WhatsApp thus offers the possibility to use the messaging service on more than two devices (smartphone and one other device) at the same time. In addition to the phone that WhatsApp is installed on, you can use it on up to four other devices. It is no longer necessary for them to be connected to the phone online. Until now, if the phone had no internet connection or was turned off, WhatsApp would not work on other devices.
Please note, this is a test function. As a result, the function may not work properly. On Android tablets, the feature doesn’t seem to work yet.
Participate in test on Android device
- Open the app whatsapp.
- Tap the three dots at the top right.
- Tap on Paired Devices.
- Tap on Multi-device beta.
- Tap on Participate in beta.
Participate in test on iPhone/iPad
- Open the app whatsapp.
- Tap at the bottom of the screen Institutions.
- Tap on Paired Devices.
- Swipe all the way down and tap Multi-device beta.
- Tap on Participate in beta.
- Tap on Continue.
Pair device from Android device
To then pair a device from an Android device:
- Grab the device to be paired and surf to web.whatsapp.com
- Pick up the phone and open whatsapp.
- Tap the three dots at the top right.
- Tap on Paired Devices.
- Tap on Pair a device.
- Using the phone, scan the code on the computer screen. To do this, point the camera at the code as if you were taking a photo.

Pair device from an iPhone
Here’s how to pair a device from an iPhone afterwards:
- Grab the device to be paired and surf to web.whatsapp.com
- Pick up the phone and open whatsapp.
- Tap at the bottom of the screen Institutions.
- Tap on Paired Devices.
- Tap on Pair a device.
- Confirm with Touch ID, Face ID or passcode.
- Using the phone, scan the code on the computer screen. To do this, point the camera at the code as if you were taking a photo.
