I myself have scoliosis (48°). What is the probability that my child will also have this? Can you see this before birth, and is it more likely in a girl or a boy?

Heredity in scoliosis.

I myself am a woman and scoliosis was discovered when I was 12 years old.

It would be a non-congenital defect.

Answer

The odds are slim, about 1/20, which isn’t much more than with other kids. You can’t see this before birth because scoliosis only develops in puberty. The chance is 7x greater with a girl.

It is usually a non-congenital disorder, but hereditary factors play a role.
