Since the iPhone 14 (Plus) and iPhone 14 Pro (MAX) it is possible to approach emergency services via a satellite connection. This function is intended for emergencies at locations where no mobile or wifin network is available.
SOS emergency notification via satellite will be available later this month in the Netherlands and Belgium. If you want to use the service, it is important that you first set this in a correct way, otherwise the function will not work. It is therefore important to perform this installation process as quickly as possible.
Emergency services via satellite
If you go somewhere where possible no mobile network or Wifin network is available, you must do the following before departure: create your medical ID, add your contacts for emergencies and try out the demo of SOS emergency notification. If you don’t do this, you can do the satellite function not to use.
Create medical ID
The health application contains various registrations of activities, health and more, but also a medical ID. Disorders, medication, earlier operations, etc. can be added to this file so that care providers can consult this quickly.
- Open the Health App
- Tap your profile photo
- Go to Medical ID and choose ‘Create medical ID’
- Have you already created one? Then tap ‘Change’
Add SOS contact persons
If something is suddenly going on with you, you can quickly call the emergency services via the SOS emergency notification. When using SOS emergency notification, your SOS contacts are also informed immediately that you have called the emergency services. You can assign these people to your medical ID, tap ‘Add SOS contact person’ (more info). Then the medical ID is ready, confirm by tapping ‘ready’ to view an overview of your file.
SOS emergency notification via satellite
When you have linked the medical ID and the contacts for emergencies, you can almost use the SOS emergency notification via satellite. First you have to try out the demo of SOS emergency notification. If you don’t do this, you can do the satellite function not to use. You can do this via:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone
- Navigate to ’emergency notification’.
- Scroll down and tap ‘Try Demo off’.
Now follow the steps on the screen and read the explanation about the function carefully. Complete the full demo, then you can approach the emergency services via satellite in the event of an emergency. Good to know, with the demo of SOS emergency notification, the emergency services are not approached, it merely a test.
Availability SOS emergency notification via satellite
It is not possible everywhere to use SOS emergency notification via satellite. You can use the function in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Canada, United Kingdom and the United States.
