In our pond there are 2 colors of goldfish: – 3 red (V) – 1 yellow (V) – 2 yellow (M). Which color is genetically dominant? Is that red?

We wonder if we’ll see both yellow and red goldfish in the fledglings. So far only a few fish are discolored, the rest are still black. The fish that are already discolored are yellow.

Best

The yellow mutation is normally dominant. In natural circumstances there should therefore be more yellow than red varieties (also in the offspring in your pond). Historically, only the yellow variety was allowed to be grown by the Chinese Emperor and the orange by the common people. Because of this, there are more orange than yellow goldfish.
