In platformer Stagehand you don’t control the figure, but the level

Stagehand seems like a traditional platformer for iOS, but it is quite different from what you know. That’s because you don’t control the protagonist Frank, but the world around him.

Stagehand

Developer Big Bucket Software is back with its first new game since 2014. Then came the beautiful adventure game Space Age. With Stagehand, the app maker returns a little more to roots. That is, if we look at the protagonist of the game. That’s Frank, who previously starred in The Incident.

This time Frank runs through a colorful environment. He does this automatically and continues to do so until he falls into the depths, runs into a wall or is hit by large spiky balls. To make sure that doesn’t happen, slide the platforms under him. Swipe up a platform at a momentum and Frank makes a jump. As a player you automatically get better at this, so that your high scores are always higher.

Different every time

Stagehand is a game that is all about getting a high score. The game has no fixed levels, but a level that is generated procedurally. This means that you never play the same level twice and that the game constantly offers new platforms itself. In principle, you can play on this endlessly – until Frank meets his fate, of course. A new game always starts with ‘Monday’. While walking it automatically becomes dark and light and every time a new ‘day’ dawns, the level changes.

Stagehand plays well on iOS and also shifting platforms quickly. The game costs 1.99 euros. That’s not much, but it feels like this game could easily have been released for free as well. Especially because Stagehand does not reward you much for playing. When you reach 1000, 4000 and 8000 points you will unlock new characters, and you will also have to enjoy achieving high scores.
