Strava comes with a blogging platform for athletes, on which they can post stories and photos. The app is increasingly emerging as a social network.
Athlete Posts
Strava’s new feature is called ‘Athlete Posts’. For the time being you can follow 36 athletes, who in turn can make all kinds of posts. Think of stories, photos, training or tips for workouts. It is a clear step of the app to register more than just a sports performance. Strava wants to make its service a lot more social.
“This is another big step toward our goal of building a platform where you can find out all about sports,” the Strava blog said. “Strava is the place where millions of athletes register their activities and connect with friends. Now it will also be the place where you will find the perfect half marathon. It could be the place where you post pictures of your new bike. Or where you ask others for tips. ”
Later this summer for everyone
The examples outlined are currently exclusive to the 36 athletes selected by Strava. Among them are professional coach Lauren Fleshan, ex-professional cyclist Jered Gruber and endurance runner and podcaster Rich Roll. According to Strava, it won’t take long for every athlete to get started with the new features. That will be later this summer. A Premium subscription is not required.
Social network
Strava has taken a good look at other social platforms and the goal is clear: to make athletes more active. Not only with sports, but also online on the app. For this, Strava can draw on all the athletes who are already active on the network. It is not known how many users the service has. The company itself says ‘millions’, but that says nothing about the number of paying members and active users.
