After Twitter, Meta will also ask for money for the blue check mark behind your name. How much will the Facebook and Instagram plan cost?
New subscription for Instagram and Facebook
Mark Zuckerberg has announced that it will soon be possible to pay for verification on Instagram and Facebook. By taking out a subscription, also known as ‘Meta Verified’, you will receive a blue check mark behind your username. Of course we already know that verification logo from Twitter, which has had a similar subscription for a number of months.

With Meta Verified, the company wants to improve user authentication: after all, there are a lot of fake accounts on social media such as Facebook and Instagram. In the future, it should therefore be possible to better distinguish between these fake accounts and real accounts. It is not (yet) possible for companies to take out Meta Verified.
Mandatory identification when closing Meta Verified
When taking out the subscription, Instagram or Facebook asks for proof of identity to identify you. Only when you have shown a valid proof of identity will you receive the blue check mark behind your name. It is not known how Meta will check this and how long it will take you to have the verification logo on your profile.
The new subscription can be taken out by anyone, it is not only intended for famous people such as politicians or actors. Once you have taken out the subscription, it is no longer possible to simply change your profile name or photo. If you still want to change your personal information, you will have to go through the verification process again.
That’s how much you’re going to pay for the subscription
The new subscription for Facebook and Instagram is on the pricey side: you pay $ 11.99 monthly if you take out the subscription via the website. You pay even more in the App Store, where Meta asks no less than $ 14.99 per month. Prices are higher in the App Store, due to the percentage that goes to Apple when buying an app.

The subscription for Instagram and Facebook will be released this week in Australia and New Zealand. It is not yet known when the subscription will come to the Netherlands, but Zuckerberg has already indicated that more countries will follow soon. It is therefore expected that we will not have to wait long for the new Meta Verified subscription in the Netherlands either.
