iOS 12 tip: this is how you permanently delete photos from your iPhone

The new iOS 12 not only introduces new features, but also adapts existing functions (or gives them a slightly different place). Permanently deleting photos is one example. In this tip, you can read how it works in the latest iOS update.

This is how you delete photos in iOS 12

For many users, deleting photos is a way to keep their Camera Roll tidy, and not fill the storage space of their iPhone or iPad with unnecessary snaps. To permanently delete photos in iOS 12, still go to the ‘Recently Deleted’ folder, but you’ll find it in a slightly different place. Follow the steps below to find it and permanently dispose of deleted images.

  1. Open the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad;
  2. Tap on ‘Albums’;
  3. Scroll down and go to ‘Recently Deleted’ under ‘Other albums’;
  4. Select the photos you want to permanently delete;
  5. Tap on ‘Delete’ and confirm your choice by choosing ‘Delete photos’.

Keep in mind that photos in the ‘Recently Deleted’ folder are automatically deleted after a while. With each snapshot you can see when that happens, with an indication at the top that it can take up to 40 days before they disappear permanently. If you remove them manually by following the steps above, they will disappear immediately.
