The Find My iPhone app has disappeared since iOS 13, but don’t worry: the new Find My app is a better alternative in every way. You can do all this with it.
This is the Find My app
iOS 13 renamed the Find My iPhone app to Find My, an app you can use to find your friends, your Apple devices such as your AirPods, MacBook, iPad, and more. You can also share your location with it. We show you how to use these three functions step by step. Pay attention: you need iOS 13 or later to use this app.
1. Find family and friends
Apple combined the Find My iPhone and Find My Friends apps with Find My. That is why you can also find your friends if they have shared their location with you. You do this as follows.
- Open the Find My app;
- Tap ‘People’;
- Tap the person whose location you want to know.
You will receive the live location of someone in your address book, provided that this person has given you permission to do so. On the map you can see exactly where he or she is at that moment. This location is updated almost continuously, which gives you a good live view. Also handy for a festival!

2. Share your location
In addition to finding the location of friends in this app, you can of course also share your own location. You have the choice to share your location with someone for an hour, until tonight or forever. It goes without saying to handle this function with care and not just give everyone access to your location.
- Open the Find My app;
- Tap on ‘Me’;
- Set the switch behind ‘Share my location’ to green;
- Tap ‘People’;
- Choose ‘Start Sharing Location’;
- Choose the person (or people) who are allowed to see your location;
- Decide whether you want to share your live location an hour, until tonight or always;
- Confirm your choice.
A list of people who follow your location will now appear in the People tab. Swipe from right to left over a name and tap the trash can to revoke this access.

3. Find all your Apple devices, including offline
All Apple devices linked to your iCloud account can now be found in the Find My app. Here you can see the last known location.
- Open the Find My app;
- Tap on ‘Devices’;
- View the location of all your devices or select a specific device by tapping on it.
Tapping on a device will bring up a new window where you can play a sound, get directions or receive notifications when it is found. You can also report the product as lost and possibly delete it remotely. Handy if you are sure that you will not get a device back and just want to keep your data private.
Also on the Apple Watch and Mac
Can’t remember where you left your iPhone? The Find My feature is also very easy to use on the Apple Watch. Simply swipe up to open the control panel and press the phone icon in the top right with the sound stripes around it.
Your iPhone will then start playing a sound, so you only have to track the sound if you have lost it. Curious about how the app works with your MacBook? Then read our explanation about the Find My app on Mac.
