The Reader view has been a familiar sight in iOS and macOS for years. However, starting with iOS 13, the website layout alignment function works a little differently. This is how you turn on the Reader display.
Turn on Reader View in iOS 13
Do you find many websites too distracting? Then try the Reader view. This function strips all unnecessary elements of a website and focuses on the content: text and images. In addition, the layout of websites is aligned. This gives websites a much more uniform design.
This is how you turn on the Reader view of iOS 13 and iPadOS:
- Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad;
- Go to the website or article you want to read;
- Press and hold the ‘aA’ button to the left of the address bar;
- After about a second, the Reader display will turn on.
Long press the same button again to return the display to normal. You can also turn on the uniform display by first tapping the letters ‘aA’ and then selecting the first button. In this menu you can also change the font of websites or request the desktop version. This can sometimes be useful when websites are not optimized for iPhones.
Automatically open reader view
Do you really like the Reader view? Then we have good news. It is possible to open websites in this format by default. To do this, go to the Settings app, scroll down and choose ‘Safari’. Then click under the heading ‘Settings for websites’ for ‘Reader’. Finally, slide the switch so that the box turns green.
