iOS 15.1 now available for your iPhone: these features are new

Since last night it is possible to install iOS 15.1 on your iPhone. With the new version of the operating system, Apple brings a number of new functionalities to its smartphones. In this article a handy overview of which functionalities these are.

One has taken a little longer than the other, but the fact remains that they are finally available on your iPhone. More than a month after iOS 15 appeared, Apple is releasing iOS 15.1 and certain features are finally being rolled out. Think of SharePlay, ProRes and much more.

iOS 15.1 introduces SharePlay

It took a while, but today the time has finally come: people with an iPhone can use SharePlay. The functionality was big announced during WWDC21, but was missing a month ago when iOS 15 was rolled out.

Thanks to the functionality it is possible to enjoy content together with friends or family, remotely. So you can all watch a movie or enjoy new music. Not only on the iPhone, but also on the Apple TV, for example. Everyone is in control of the content and thanks to FaceTime it is possible to keep talking to each other.

New to the camera

Thanks to iOS 15.1, you can also find a new functionality in the camera app of your iPhone. ProRes was discussed during the announcement of the iPhone 13 series. This makes it possible to shoot videos in a higher quality. Videos that are also easier to edit.

In addition, it will be possible for consumers to disable the auto-switch for Macro mode. When you got close to an object, the iPhone 13 switched automatically, causing frustration for some users. So that is now coming to an end.

iOS 15.1: Apple Wallet, Homekit and more

In addition to the above additions and improvements, a number of other things have also been addressed in iOS 15.1. It concerns the following matters:

  • You can now put a COVID-19 vaccination certificate in your Apple Wallet
  • In the Translate app it is possible to translate to Guanhua (Mandarin)
  • HomeKit can perform actions based on humidity, air quality and light incidence
  • The Shortcuts app comes with a number of preset actions for image and text

These issues will be resolved

Since the introduction of iOS 15, your iPhone may suffer from a number of (minor) problems. iOS 15.1 comes with a number of bug fixes that should fix these, you guessed it, problems. Apple announces that the following issues have been resolved:

  • Photo app may incorrectly report insufficient storage capacity
  • Weather app does not always show the correct weather and colors for your location
  • Audio can be paused when you lock the screen
  • VoiceOver can cause Wallet app closing
  • Wifi networks cannot be detected
  • Algorithm for iPhone 12 should ensure that battery capacity is better estimated
