iOS 15 wish list: 9 must-have features

Tonight it will be announced: iOS 15. In this article we look one more time ahead at the major iPhone update of 2021. This is our wish list for iOS 15.

iOS 15 wish list: 9 features that will hopefully be added

WWDC 2021 kicks off tonight at 7:00 PM. That’s good news for Apple enthusiasts, as all new software updates will be announced during this event.

The star of the evening is of course iOS 15. We are eagerly looking forward to this year’s iPhone update and in this article we list our wishes. Hopefully Apple has read our wish list in time.

1. Apple Password Service

Those who are smart use a password service. Such an app remembers all your login details for apps and websites so you don’t have to. Of course, Apple has had the iCloud Keychain for this for a long time, but it’s time for the next step. The key ring works less fine than competitors.

Hopefully, with iOS 15, Apple will introduce its own password service à la 1Password, Bitwarden or Dashlane. Technically, all this should not be too challenging for the company. After all, Safari can currently suggest strong passwords and then store them in your iCloud keychain.

By making this a separate app, you attract more people to use a password manager. In addition, Apple may make this service available for other platforms, such as Android. That way, the password manager can also be lucrative.

2. Apple 2FA App

Speaking of Apple and security, why doesn’t the company actually have a two-factor authentication app (2FA)? As far as we are concerned, such an app is indispensable in 2021.

A 2FA app protects your profiles on websites and apps because you need not only your login information, but also a verification code when logging in. This will be sent to your iPhone, Mac or iPad. It makes it so much more difficult for malicious people to access your investment app or social media. They need physical access to your device for the verification code.

3. More freedom

With iOS 14, Apple gave much more control to iPhone users. From now on we could personalize our own home screen with widgets and other app icons. Hopefully, Apple will continue that trend with iOS 15.

For example, it would be great to add white space on the iPhone home screen in certain places. That way you can place widgets and app icons exactly in the right place and create a quieter home screen.

It is also quite a hassle in iOS 14 to change the icons of apps, partly because you have to get started with the Assignments app. That should be easier?

4. Dynamic Widgets

iOS 14 introduced widgets and hopefully its successor will pick up. We hope Apple gets you started with interactive widgets in iOS 15. Now the ‘expanded apps’ are still quite ‘dumb’. They refresh sometimes, but interaction is impossible.

For example, do you have a widget from the Notes app on your home screen? As soon as you tap on a note, the Notes app will simply open, instead of, for example, a window. It is also still impossible to add a note from the iPhone home screen via the widget.

5. Always On Screen

If we are to believe the rumors, the iPhone 13 will have an always-on display. Such a screen never goes to sleep, but always stays on in a minimal way. That way, for example, you can check incoming emails and the time without unlocking your iPhone.

Hopefully, Apple will pre-order this innovation by preparing its own apps in advance. If it turns out that iOS 15 actually has all kinds of references to an always-on screen, it is also almost certain that the iPhone 13 will get this display.

6. Uniform Icons

The iPhone and Mac have been converging for years. However, there are still some differences in design. Take, for example, the app icons of iOS 14 and macOS 11 (Big Sur), the latest Mac software version. These pictures don’t match which makes things look a bit chaotic. It’s a no-brainer for Apple to smooth out the design with iOS 15.

7. Split screen

On Android smartphones you have been able to get started with split screen for years, and it is time for Apple to follow suit. Thanks to split screen, you can break the iPhone screen into two parts. For example, you can watch a movie on the left of the screen, while WhatsApp is open on the right.

People with a compact phone, such as the iPhone 12 mini or iPhone SE, probably won’t use this feature. However, if you have an iPhone 12 Pro Max (with a 6.7-inch screen), split screen could come in handy. Plus, split screen is already possible on iPads, so technically Apple should be able to pull it off.

8. Third Party Dynamic Wallpapers

Are you quickly bored with your iPhone wallpaper? Then choose a dynamic wallpaper. These adapt continuously, giving your background that little bit of extra flair.

For now, you can only choose dynamic wallpapers from Apple itself. Because the company has been giving users more and more freedom in recent years, it is not inconceivable that you will soon also be able to use moving iPhone wallpapers from others.

9. Loose Security Updates

According to a rumor, Apple will offer separate security updates from iOS 15. Currently, these updates are always bundled with a new iOS version. By separating the two, you can update your phone, but you don’t have to immediately install a new iOS version.

So tonight iOS 15 will be presented, but you can’t download the update right away. We expect the iPhone update only this fall, when the iPhone 13 comes out.

Want to be the first to get started with iOS 15? Then you can participate in the public beta. This version may be less stable, but it will ensure that you are the first to taste the innovations.
