Have you installed iOS 18, but are you still not used to the updated Photos app? Then we have good news, because with iOS 18.2, Apple is making a number of improvements to the photo library. This is them!
iOS 18.2
Another update for the iPhone is coming! Apple will soon release iOS 18.2 and has now shared an overview of all the new features. The Photos app in particular will receive a number of adjustments with iOS 18.2, which should improve the photo library. In iOS 18, Apple gave the Photos app a new layout, which divided opinions. That is why the company has now announced improvements. This is them!
1. Interface of videos
Watching videos in the Photos app gets easier in iOS 18.2. With iOS 18, Apple introduced black borders around a video, which only disappear when you tap the video. These black borders have disappeared in iOS 18.2, so you can immediately play the video in full screen. This was also the case before iOS 18, so playing videos works in a similar way to iOS 17 (and earlier).
2. Play videos automatically
Do you find it annoying that your videos keep repeating? Then there will be a solution to the Photos app with iOS 18.2. You can disable automatic video playback after installing the update. This way, videos don’t loop continuously when you watch them in the Photo Library. The feature is enabled by default, but you can disable it in iOS 18.2 as follows:
- Open ‘Settings’ on your iPhone;
- Scroll down and tap ‘Apps’;
- Select ‘Photos’;
- Turn off the switch behind ‘Repeat videos’.
3. Improved navigation
Navigating through the updated Photos app is much easier from iOS 18.2, because Apple has added a new swipe gesture to the application. With iOS 18, you can return to the previous screen in the Photo Library by tapping the arrow at the top left of the screen. This is especially inconvenient with large iPhones, because that spot is difficult to reach with one hand. That’s why you can also swipe across the screen (to the right) from iOS 18.2 swipe) to get back into the Photos app.
4. Video editing
Do you make a lot of videos with your iPhone and edit them regularly? In that case, you get a useful feature in iOS 18.2, because you can now watch videos down to the millisecond. This way you know exactly where you left off editing or watching a video. After installing iOS 18.2, the milliseconds will appear automatically when playing a video in the Photos app, you do not need to adjust any settings.
5. Clear history
With iOS 18, Apple added two new albums to the Photos app, so you can see which photos and videos you’ve recently viewed or shared. These files are collected in an album and cannot be deleted. This is possible from iOS 18.2, you can then delete your photo library history. Both the Recently Viewed and Recently Shared albums give you the option to remove all photos and videos from the list. The files will remain in your photo library, so they will not be deleted from your iPhone.
