Using the Diary app you can capture special moments and memories. The application has been improved from iOS 18 and you can now search for previous notes, add your mood and use useful widgets.
You can also immediately link your state of mind to a note from Diary. This way you can gain good insight into your emotions afterwards when you wrote the message. Unfortunately, Diary can still be used exclusively on an iPhone and is not yet available for iPad or Mac.
Diary in short
You can use the Diary application to write about your experiences and discover meaningful insights. Perfect for capturing special moments, so that you can reflect on them again at a later time. Diary is ideal for keeping track of what you are grateful for so that you can reflect on it. Research shows that this benefits your well-being.
Using on-device machine learning, users receive personal suggestions for inspiration. Based on recent activities including photos, people, places, and workouts, these suggestions make it easier to start writing. Scheduled notifications can also help you really make it a habit.
Linking mood to diary
Mental health is just as important as physical health. Research shows that paying attention to your state of mind can have a positive effect on your emotional awareness and resilience. It is already possible to record your state of mind in a simple way via the Health or Mindfulness app for Apple Watch.
From iOS 18 you can also keep track of how you feel in the Diary app and link it to the Health app.
- Open Diary
- Start a new note via the plus button
- Choose a suggestion or just a new note
- Tap the Mood icon (fan) in the toolbar
- Capture your emotion
Do you want this data to be shared with the Health app? Then you can enable this. To do this, go to Diary â–¸ Tap the three dots at the top â–¸ Access Health â–¸ Enable the desired options.
Using the insights screen
When you open the Diary app, you will see new statistics at the top of the screen. These give you insight into the use of the app at a glance.
See how many days in a row you have written, your previous writings and many more interesting statistics that will motivate you to keep writing. Tap the stats to open the insights screen for more details.
View calendar
The biggest advantage of the insights screen is the Agenda. Here you will find the calendar and see on which day you have or have not added a note. You can find this at the bottom of the statistics.
Search in Diary
Easily find what you have previously written using the search function. Tap the magnifying glass and search for results. This way you can search for places, activity and of course words. You can also filter by photos and videos.
Diary widgets
Finally, Apple has also added widgets for Diary. You can immediately start a new note in the Diary app from the Lock screen or Home screen. This makes it even easier to take a moment of reflection.
You can also add a widget to the lock screen or your home screen that gives you different writing suggestions throughout the day. Of course, you can also choose a widget that keeps track of your writing series for you and gives you insight into your writing statistics.
