iOS 17 won’t be released until next week, so iOS 18 will have to wait a long time. But what you can look forward to is that Siri is getting a huge update in iOS 18. Apple is currently investing large amounts of money into it.
iOS 18: Siri gets a huge update
Siri was once more or less seen as intelligent, but those days are far behind us. In light of all the current developments in artificial intelligence, Siri is hopelessly outdated. But that is finally changing.
According to the website The Information Apple wants to use language models in iOS 18 to make Siri smarter. Additionally, Apple is currently investing heavily (reportedly millions of dollars per day) in Ajax GPT, an advanced AI language model that is more powerful than ChatGPT. Ajax GPT in particular could give Siri the super boost that the assistant has needed for years.
Integration with the Assignments app
In addition, Siri in iOS 18 will be able to do similar things that are already possible with the Shortcuts app. Siri will probably even be integrated into Shortcuts. Shortcuts has become an important part of iOS and can be used for all kinds of powerful automated actions.
For example, in iOS 18, Siri could take five photos, turn them into a GIF, and then send that GIF to a friend in a single action. This will save a lot of time in the future. Automatically converting photos into a GIF is already possible with the Assignments app, but you have to set this manually.
iOS 17 is coming first
iOS 18 with the updated version of Siri won’t be released for another year, but iOS 17 will arrive next week. There is no Siri update yet, but it does include Standby, contact posters, NameDrop and much more.
